Coronavirus Conundrum

Dr. John De Noyelles, PT, OCS, CSCS

Our amazing healthcare workforce is working overtime – and in the thick of unprecedented circumstances. Many are stuck inside. Kids are home. Families are together. Moms, dads and grandparents are homeschooling. “Essentials” continue to work. Many have lost jobs.

As I sit with my family on a Sunday night I am reminded of OUR situation. It is hard to put into words. Tomorrow, I will go to work and help those in pain who need to get back to needed activities so they can be the best they can be. My wife will do the same on Tuesday and the rest of the week. It’s a balancing act… healthcare provider, parent, homeschool teacher, facilitator of productive use of time when time is now abundant, and managing a changed way of life.

I live in the country. I went for a run today and saw more first time runners (I have a trained eye for this) than cars. Two versus one in the span of 3 miles. That’s when it dawned on me: things are going to change. As people are told to stay home they are consuming more alcohol and ice cream while worrying if they have this virus and enough toilet paper. And many, including those two novice runners I saw, are recognizing that physical activity and exercise are the key to positive mental and physical health.

While I’m not responsible for directly fighting the virus, I can help those looking to make positive changes in their bodies and lives. We all need those positive changes to help best combat the struggles ahead. Many people have more time available than they have had in many years. I predict a revolution is starting. A running-, strength training-, hiking-, family workout- revolution. Although many will struggle and suffer through this pandemic, many will pick up the pieces and more forward.

Move Physio is open and is dedicated to leading this revolution. We want to help you start and to keep you going. Whether it’s in the clinic or through the Internet, we strive to solve your pain and physical hurdles. Simply contact us and inquire how we will help you.
